Femapri´s relationship with the environment goes far beyond just the production of recyclabe packaging. We are aware that creating an ecologically correct product is of little worth if we refuse to sincerely adopt the environmental cause and play our role in the conservation of the planet.
That is why we use clean production, with minimal reliance on important resources and maximum reutilization of the residues. In the year 2007 we invested more than R$ 1 million to overhaul the factory in order to avoid waste, reduce the consumption of energy and improve the working conditions within the factory.
With that investment, besides becoming able to recycle all our plastic remains, we are now practically independent of the use of public water (the majority of our water comes from artesian wells), and the residues from our manufacturing wash are thoroughly treated before being reintroduced into the public tubulation. The economic and environmental benefits of our current energy usage is a result of the use of a translucent roof and wind turbine energy for the exhausts; and the trash that we generate is selected and donated to a non governmental organization, that uses the resources from the selling of it in programs to assist the destitute young from the area where the factory is located.
However, in spite of considering all that preoccupation with nature essential, Femapri knows that none of that is valuable without citizens who are conscious of their role in the conservation of the environment. That is why we provide motivational and self-esteem courses to our collaborators, with a conscientious program about ecology-related subjects and a library & videography available to encourage their cultural interest; and at the end of every year, we stage a contest to help permeate the best recycling and waste combat ideas.
But Femapri´s acts are not limited by the walls of the factory. By a net of partnerships with environmental defense organizations, socially responsible companies and town halls, our main goal by 2009 is to ensure that all used packages are returned from the final customer to us, by post or business mail. With that, we hope not only help to diminish the daily amount of 700 tonnes of plastic trash generated in big cities, but also contribute to children´s & societies education, by donating part of the gains obtained in the process to ecological movements and teaching organizations.
